Foundation, Concealer and Powder Recommendations

Here are some of my favourite foundation and concealer recommendations. I’ve put three key words next to them to make them as easy as possible to navigate.

They all serve different purposes, so have a Google and see which one seems right for you. If you are trying to work out which shade is best for you, visit any of these counters and ask someone to help you, or have a look on to give you an initial guide. A quick Google image search of the shade you think you will be will most likely bring up some blogger reviews and photos of that product so you can see it in real life.

By no means are these the only products I recommend, there are so many brilliant options on the market. But seeing as I get asked for recommendations a lot, I wanted to create one guide so that when people ask me “which foundation would you recommend for me?” I have a starting point for them.

I always recommend setting your concealer with a little bit of powder once you’ve applied it, to prevent it from settling into fine lines. I’ve put some recommendations for powder at the end of this piece. Do this with a small, fluffy brush if you can to really get into those little nooks and crannies and hold everything in place. I also set the centre of my face in this way.

Just to note, I always use a separate SPF even if my foundation has an SPF in it and I would advise you to do the same.

(A note about my own preferences: I work with IT Cosmetics on an ongoing basis, for the record, but I genuinely use their CC Cream every day. I tend to wear the Original formula or the Illuminating formula. More about IT Cosmetics here. All of the below products are things I have personally tried and enjoyed both on myself and on make-up clients.)

  1. Hi I was wondering if you could recommend a powder for skin that has rosacea? I see Laura mercier recommended a lot also IT cosmetics
    Thank you

  2. This is great information, Rose, thank you. Bobbi Brown also has a great line of color correctors that brighten and correct dark under eye circles. I use Light Bisque (peachy) for my purple/blue under eye discoloration. It truly works wonders!
